The municipal monument the Theo Thijssen school in the Noordewierweg in Amersfoort will be transformed into new accommodation for residents needing care. A number of rooms will also be put to use for outpatients’ treatment and a new residential building will be added. The school, built in the 1930s, was designed by the urban architect Van der Tak. Over the years some of its characteristic elements have disappeared. During the renovation, the monument and the grounds will be restored to their former glory. The new building has its own character but is linked to the monument through details and use of materials.
