Meander

De Meander

On 4 March 2008, the first foundation stone was laid of the assisted living centre De Meander in Nieuwkerk aan de IJssel. The old healthcare centre, Chrysanthemum, will be demolished over the coming months.

De Meander will include a healthcare centre for the elderly, with amenities, 23 owner-occupied apartments and 50 rental apartments, divided amongst three blocks. The three blocks are mutually connected by a slightly winding hallway. This so-called meeting road and its amenities forms the beating heart of the complex.

The complex will be given an open and friendly appearance through the use of soft colours in the brick facade. Spacious balconies and patios give the residents the opportunity to enjoy the surroundings.

Extra attention has been paid to the sustainable use of energy. For example, solar panels and grass roofs will be used. The building itself will also be able to store up cold and warm air.
