Heimerstein

The country estate of Heimerstein in Rhenen, set between the Grebbeberg and the river Grift, is the environment in which mentally disabled residents live. It is crucial to the residents of Heimerstein that they recognise their surroundings. Different places on the grounds are linked by a scenic route. A combination of shape, position, use of colours and details give each house, activity building and outdoor space its own identity. The Heimerstein House and its front garden mark the entrance to the grounds. Some of the houses are situated in the residential area near the Grebbeberg. The rest are more spaciously situated near the river Grift. These houses have a veranda at the back enabling the residents to enjoy the view. The activity buildings are located around a new square. One of the buildings faces the existing square thus enabling it to be used more often.
